The globe valve is designed to be low and high, the purpose is to make the flow resistance small and save effort when opening the valve. At the same time, when the valve is closed, the packing material between the valve shell and the valve cover and the packing around the valve stem are not stressed, and the medium pressure and temperature will not be affected for a long time, which can extend the service life and reduce the probability of leakage.

Under normal circumstances, the globe valve is low into high, however, there are some special cases in which the globe valve is high into low out:
· High pressure stop valve with diameter greater than 100mm
Due to the poor sealing performance of the large diameter valve, this method is used to stop the valve in the closed state, the medium pressure acts on the top of the valve disc to increase the sealing of the valve.
· Two stop valves in series on the bypass pipeline, and the second globe valve requires "high inlet and low outlet".
In order to ensure the tightness of the valve within a maintenance cycle, the valve that is often opened and closed requires two shut-off valves in series.
· Boiler exhaust and blowdown stop valve
Boiler exhaust and vent stop valves are only used in the process of starting the boiler water, and the opening and closing frequency is small, but the working medium is often lost due to poor sealing, so some power plants in order to improve the tightness of the installation direction of such stop valves "high in and low out".
